Well, I believe I'm the first to witness the aftermath of Mike's skateboarding incident, to which he only commented, "I wish I had some badass story to tell about how I got this, but the fact is I don't. All I can say is that a 43 year old man should not try his hand at downhill skateboarding....I was trying to show off to my son, what can I say?"
The entrance lights came on and Mike headed on stage in a fedora and godfather style black trench coat with only one arm in a sleeve, the left one obviously in a cast. While I was extremely disappointed at first, because he is an extremely charismatic guitar player...not to mention all the solos fall on his hand, I must admit that it was one of the best Social D shows I have ever seen. It was just as hard, just as long, and it even gave Mike the chance to focus fully on his vocal performance. The fill in from T.S.O.L did pretty decent considering how short of time he had to prepare, but you could tell he didn't know all of the songs. Mike cued him a lot, and Johnny carried most of the guitar weight.
If you're still waiting to see one of the final shows this month, don't be disappointed. The performance was a rare one, and it still kicked just as much ass as their normal shows. When I saw them in Reno back in October, Mike seemed tired and out of it. This time he was full on (he even commented that the happy pills the doc gave him helped his mood a bit), although you could see he was hating the fact that he wasn't playing. He always seemed like he didn't know what to do with his right hand, usually putting it in his pocket, but the persona was still in tact. When he normal played his solos, he just motioned to the crowd and walked around, at times throwing roses and cigars into the audience. Regardless of his situation, he walked out on stage with that look in his eye, the look that read, "Broken wrist or not, I can still take every motha fucka in this room." And that is precisely what SD fans look for.

*I hoped this helped ease everyone's doubt over whether they could still put on a good show. If you have any other questions on how things were run, let me know.

Thanks for the review. Sounds like a great show. Was the setlist any different?

Thanks for the update. It sounds like it went off pretty well.

I was wondering what wrist it was. I'm not a guitar player, but the left would seem to be worse than the right for a guy who plays like mike, but I don't know, maybe not. I wonder if it will impact work on a new record.

SOunds like a real cool show

The left would be the worst one because that's the one that he'll have done all the fretting with.

What was the crowd reaction when Ron walked on stage with a guitar or was it posted outside the venue?

Sounds like it all went well. I kind of figured that Jonny would be taking most of the guitar weight (which is great cause he is a great geetar player!). It would be an experience to see and hear. Bummer that Mike broke his wrist.

If anybody is going to tonights social D show in Vegas, stop by the infamous Double Down Saloon aftarwards to catch one memorable Deadbeat Sinatra set. Im putting in a hard days work today then catching one of those nifty 50 min flights just in time to hit the Rio buffet. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas Baby!

Thanks for the review. It sounds like they pulled it off (thank god for happy pills in times of crisis).
I'm sure with Ron not having much time to get to learn the songs, all those screw ups probably would have put Mike over the edge. The happy pills saved the show!!
    Haha!
No seriously, I really would have enjoyed being there. I think it would have been one of my favorite shows, it would have always stood out in my mind. The next 2 nights out there will probably go alot smoother.
I'm anxious to see if they carry it all the way thru to the end of the tour with no more cancellations.

The set list consisted of mostly all old songs from Mommy's Little Monster and Mainliner. To me it seemed like Mike had picked the songs because they were a bit easier to play because they obviously weren't going to be able to pick it all up in two days. They definetly didn't play any songs with a lot of solos in them, like Don't Drag Me Down. They played Reach For the Sky, Highway 101, Story of my Life, Ball and Chain, Bye Bye Baby, King of Fools, and also had the keyboard version of When the Angel's Sing.
The T.S.O.L. guitarist used his own for some songs, and for a few he even played on Mike's Les Paul. The sound was slightly different, for obvious reasons, but the show was seriously insane.

Also, I don't know if it's been this way on the rest of the tour, but since I last saw them they added a ton of new keyboard parts. Alot more of the songs had it. They even played an amazing intro to Under My Thumb using the keyboard, and then the guitars came in. It lasted for like 30 seconds or more...starting off slow and beautiful and then morphing into the loud and hard Under my Thumb. Really cool.

-I even caught one of the cigars he threw into the crowd. They were Sweet Daddies, so they had a big SD on them. I smoked that badboy right after the concert.
